Outside the Box
Since the late 1960s, the Interim program has encouraged teachers and students to explore the new and untried and, in doing so, to face challenges that could not be justified in the semester. This program permits students and professors to concentrate for the month of January on a single study project of his or her choosing. Interim projects are designed to move beyond traditional classroom courses and teaching methods, to consider important topics in relevant ways and places, to observe issues in action, to develop capacities for independent learning, and to encourage the responsible self-direction of educational development.

The Unprotected Walk
"I have found that fear and apprehension are important aspects of life and serve the crucial purpose of protection, but every so often we have to ignore these aspects and push the limits of our comfort levels to see who we can be. Sometimes it has to take going halfway around the world and removing yourself from your surroundings to test these limits."
